Same bottle as Melvin below, and concur with everything that was described. Sweet, red berry fruits. Lots of strawberry and very lifted nose, rather Chambolle in that sense. Acid was high pitched but thought everything fanned out nicely after some air.

The best Barthod I’ve had. Served blind. Lots of fruit intensity but with structure. The over riding flavour is palma violes. Impressive this is only a village! From DrK

A Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Served as a pair with the Groffier from a generous friend. Took time to get going but developed a brilliant, vibrant nose of fresh raspberries (albeit only in the Sensory glass). Some screechy acidity so guessed '08 or '11 for the vintage. A very pretty, lifted wine with mineral, red strawberry fruit that reminded me of H-N stylistically. Agreed with a friend who said that cooler vintages suit Barthod's style better.

Beautiful red fruits back with meaty savoury notes, secondary on the palate with soy sauce, earth, meat. None around the table could guess the vintage with guesses starting 2007 onwards

2014 Burgundy 10years on, tasted blind: Muted nose, red and dark fruits, also some unclean aromas. Compressed palate, tight and rustic. I think this is an off-bottle, hence no rating. Group Rank: 13/16

A Chambolle + Champagne dinner: Small sample from a buddy after I couldn't make dinner. Remarkably similar to the '07 Charmes I had in Paris with surprisingly sweet, balsamic fruit; albeit more masculine than the Charmes. Quite autumnal compared to other more youthful 2010s that I’ve had. Acidity also stuck out a little unlike other more balanced 2010s.

Dark cerise.
Utterly unique nose of heady floral scents, nectar and honey, roses and smoke.
The palate started with dark red fruits, sloes and damsons mingled with dank forest floor, but with air interestingly boysenberries and complex charcuterie, particularly sopressa but also jamon, pepper, became prominent in what is a weightless, mineral-acid wine, barely discernible tannin, enjoyed over 8 hours it evolved minimally.
This was a very interesting experience but again, like most Barthod I’ve tasted, more in the realm of academic than hedonistic pleasure.

I am not ashamed to say that I love Barthod's wines. She is a true queen of Chambolle (for me), who makes classical CM wines, even if she does not hold GC plots.
This particular wine is unquestionably great, but only for 30 minutes: dark cherry/violet/young leather/fresh raspberry on the nose + porcini/griotte/leaves on the palate.
After that - it fades into pure earth/dust. Clearly, the sign of early picking in a poor year. But those 30 minutes!

A big disappointment. The tannins are fully resolved and the wine had a lovely silk texture, but lacked precision and definition in aromas and flavors. Cellared since original release.

Nose was unpleasant for first hour or so, then muted but pleasant. The flavours! Complex, fruit and savoury flavours of old burgundy. Lovely.

Mainly red fruit, less green and herbal notes as expected (2011), the fruit is ripe, good length. Not a great wine, but quite good for the year.

Barthod's 2022 releases are strikingly gorgeous, capturing the pure essence and elegance of Chambolle-Musigny with each taste. Despite the warm, hot conditions of 2022, Barthod has masterfully crafted wines that whisper their intensity—subtle, delicate, yet profound. Who else in Burgundy can match this ethereal grace and pristine, absolute pure expression of red fruit? Simply stunning.

TN: This wine features an expressive nose of fine ripe red berries and rhubarb, superb and inviting. Its aromatics are delicate yet intense and powerful. On the palate, it mirrors the nose—superb and very fine, showcasing rhubarb and strawberries in their purest form at its core, accented with touches of spices and minerality. Weightless and soulful, it stands almost singular in its expression of Burgundy. Wow.

TN: This was the most reserved wine in the 2022 lineup we tasted, displaying a muted nose. On the palate, it carries the signature red fruit, but the flavors are subdued, lacking the intricacy and balance of the other wines. It will be interesting to see how it develops and matures over time.

TN: The wine dazzles with super red berries, delicate yet vibrant with excellent tension and freshness. It features a luscious mix of pure red berries enhanced by a sprinkle of herbs and fresh, citrusy (!) undertones. Even more captivating than the Charmes, it radiates elegance and weightlessness, presenting the purest expression of fruit imaginable. Drinking this wine is an absolute joy, a masterful blend of delicacy and intensity.

Hints of herbs and minerality linger in the background, but the youthful profile is dominated by the delicacy and purity of the red fruit. Accents of herbs add complexity to the flavor profile, which has a hint of sweetness but remains balanced and never cloying. A superb example of a village wine, exquisitely crafted.

We tasted five Les Fuees in two days. The concentrated but at the same time delicate and superbly delineated Mugnier 2017 (95pts) showcased the quality, finesse and elegance this domaine is able to produce, as well as 2017s appeal as an early drinking vintage. On its heels, Ghislaine Barthod’s 2022 (95pts) which showed incredibly purity and that typical to die for red fruit core, complemented by many other layers. Already superb, despite its youth. We tasted her 2010 too (94pts) which showed an even broader aromatic spectrum with pure, fresh fruit in all shapes and colors at the core and lots of minerality but at the same time still had noticeable tannins which have to mellow further. The Amiot Servelle 2020 (92pts) showed that it’s not a good time to open the 2020s yet, while it showed promising complexity, it was too powerful and structured to truly shine. The Felettig 2020 (86pts) was very dark and concentrated, definitely more Northern Rhone than a Chambolle, but maybe this might come around in 20 years.

Two weeks in France; 4/12/2024-4/24/2024: Off the list at Tan Dinh. Fantastic selection but prices here were mostly marked to market, glad to have found this for 185€. Sweet, autumnal dark red fruit on both the nose and the palate; agree with a previous note that mentioned surmaturité. Oak and tannins quite resolved with delicate (but not tertiary) floral notes. Always a great feeling to drink a good Burgundy at its peak. On a side note, the owner was really friendly and said he has been collecting wine since 1968!

This was a pop and pour, but I didn’t really start paying close attention until it was open for ~2 hours. At first, it was a little sappy on the nose. But, it pulled back beautifully into a nuanced and elegant tones of dark red cherries, strawberries, crushed rocks, rose petals, forest floor, sweet red fruits, and a touch of worn leather. This is a nose that demands attention and time as it slowly builds into itself. The Medium bodied feel has a bit of heft along with tart, medium+ acidity along with youthful and slightly chewy tannins. This feels like it could really benefit from another 3 years. There is a good bit of freshness to the nose that is quite enjoyable, but the structure is saying: slow down just a little bit. This feels like it can get into something really special with more age and it’s moving up that mountain.
